SAG Awards
ninth time.Oscar picks

In a digital era of 3D, Sony 4K, Imax, iPads and streaming video, not evenAndy Serkis’ motion-capture performances in The Adventures of Tintin or Rise of the Planet of the Apes have made it, either as feats of modern acting or as game-changing special effects. Instead, we get old hat vets like Scorsese, Spielberg, Woody Allen and Terrence Malick are back on top. Hell, even old “school negro” maids--“Gone Wit the Wind” anyone?-- are providing the entertainment – Help! There's not an iota of the experimental about the Oscars this year, nothing daring, nothing new, except a counting system that leaves us with nine nominations for best picture, a move that ends up looking like someone's made a clerical mistake.
New Year's resolutions
NEW trends, fragrance launches, and some very controversial advertising campaigns - it has been a busy year in beauty. From the secret beauty regimes of our favorite fashionable faces to the new It Girl who had everyone talking, here's what we loved in 2011!
HAIR:
THE trend for coloured hair has been gathering momentum for the past three seasons, but after four weeks of shows filled with painted, powdered, sprayed and streaked looks, it's clear coloured hair will be bigger than ever for spring/summer 2012.
FRAGRANCE:
MADONNA launches her first fragrance - Truth or Dare - with Coty . Will fans of the material girl be interested?
"I have always been obsessed by fragrance and for years wanted to create something personal that was an expression of me, but that other people could relate to as well," she told WWD. ""My oldest memory of my mother is her perfume, I carry it with me everywhere. She always smelled like gardenias and tuberose, an intoxicating mixture [that was] feminine and mysterious. I wanted to re-create this scent, but with something fresh and new about it as well."
BEAUTY:
KATE MOSS has revealed her beauty secrets promoting the launch of her first lipstick for RIMMEL:
1. Red lipstick - No1 is her secret weapon: "It's the ultimate shade. I wouldn't wear it during the day, but at night, or if it's a do, then it's good. Lipstick is the classic, iconic make-up, isn't it? You think of Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly, and it's always about the lips."
2. But nude lips - Rimmel No 3 - and smudgy eyes rule for day.
3. She has perfected applying eyeliner without a mirror: "It's years of doing it. I just pull the eye, and then smudge the eyeliner over and flick it up. I always use a kohl pencil as it's easier to manage. You can get really good liquid liners now that are easy to use and precise, but if it goes wrong, you still have to start all over again, not like with kohl, when you can smudge it out."
4. No special tools - like lip liners or brushes - either: "Make-up artists do that, but I wouldn't do it on myself. I don't use a lip liner or a lip brush: I just shove it on."
5. Blusher is a must: "I can feel when I need it. I use a powder and then a cream blush over the top to get a bit of a glow."
PEOPLE:
Kim Kardashian
On a July episode of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," the 31-year-old reality-TV star learned from a doctor that the mysterious red splotches she'd been getting on her arms and legs were symptoms of psoriasis, an autoimmune disorder that causes itchy, red skin lesions. At first Kardashian was crushed. "My career is doing ad campaigns and swimsuit photo shoots," she said during the episode. "People don't understand the pressure on me to look perfect." By August, she was tweeting about psoriasis creams.
